Study design
What does participation in the study involve?
SwissCardIA is an observational cohort study in cardiovascular primary prevention.
It will follow 2000 adults aged 50 to 69 years old, recruited from the general population of the cantons of Vaud and Geneva.
Participation includes:
- wearing a smartwatch for 3 months to monitor physical activity, sleep and heart rate in daily life conditions;
- blood tests;
- health questionnaires;
- cardiovascular imaging examinations (CCTA) to assess the condition of the heart and its arteries;
- optional examinations, including dietary monitoring, additional imaging examinations (MRI, Doppler ultrasound), sleep monitoring and stool analysis.
Four years later, these steps are repeated, with two additional study visits and a new 3-month period of smartwatch monitoring.
The participant journey over four years is detailed in the infographic below.
