The SwissCardIA cohort study
SwissCardIA is a research initiative led jointly by the Cardiology Service of Lausanne University Hospital (Centre hospitalier universitaire vaudois, CHUV), and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, EPFL), in collaboration with Geneva University Hospitals (Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève, HUG).
SwissCardIA is a prospective observational cohort study dedicated to the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease.
It will follow 2000 individuals aged 50 to 69, with no prior cardiovascular disease, recruited from the general population of the swiss cantons of Vaud and Geneva.
The study aims to improve our understanding of how cardiovascular atherosclerotic disease develops before symptoms appear, and to explore how cardiovascular risk assessment could be improved by combining information on lifestyle, novel biological markers, genomics, and advanced cardiac imaging.
The study has received regulatory approval from the competent cantonal ethics committes (CER-VD, CCER). Participant recruitment study will start in 2027.
This research project is currently supported by funding from the Vaud Cardiology Foundation, and benefits from generous support from our institutional partners.
